LAKE MONTICELLO, SC – Authorities have arrested Desmond James, 24, in connection with a shooting that took place on Monday, October 13, in the Lake Monticello area of Fairfield County.
Deputies responded to reports of gunfire near a residence in the Lake Monticello community. According to investigators, James allegedly stopped his vehicle in front of a driveway and fired several rounds, striking a car parked on the property. Witnesses identified James as the shooter and reported that he fled the area in a black Dodge Neon.
Law enforcement officers later located the vehicle and initiated a short pursuit. James eventually surrendered without incident. Deputies discovered shell casings inside the car, which was towed to be processed under a search warrant.
During questioning at the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office, James waived his rights and admitted to firing the shots. Investigators say the incident stemmed from a prior verbal dispute between James and one of the victims, which escalated after an argument over trash being thrown at a vehicle.
James faces multiple charges, including Attempted Murder, Assault and Battery (1st Degree), Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime, and Failure to Stop for a Blue Light. He is currently being held at the Fairfield County Detention Center, awaiting a bond hearing.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Investigator Byrd at 803-635-4141 or provide details anonymously through the tip line at 803-815-4191.
