BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. — Several Blythewood residents have voiced growing concerns about a local Facebook group, “Voices of Blythewood and Surrounding Areas,” which has reportedly been used to spread false or misleading information about individuals and families within the community.

According to multiple community members, the group’s administrator — identified under the name Cindy Merritt — has been accused of posting unverified claims and harmful content allegedly intended to damage reputations. Residents say that those who attempt to question or clarify these posts are often blocked or removed from the group, limiting transparency and open discussion.

Community leaders and online safety advocates warn that such behavior can have serious real-world consequences. “Spreading false or defamatory information online can harm families, businesses, and the overall sense of trust in our town,” one Blythewood resident said.

Facebook’s Community Standards prohibit harassment, misinformation, and targeted attacks on individuals. Residents are being encouraged to report the group and any related posts that violate these standards.

What Residents Can Do

  • Report misleading or harmful content directly to Facebook.
  • Avoid engaging with posts that appear inflammatory or unverified.
  • Seek information from credible community sources before sharing.
  • Encourage positive and fact-based discussions online.

False information can travel quickly online, but so can truth and accountability. Blythewood residents are reminded that fostering a safe, honest, and respectful digital environment is everyone’s responsibility.
