A woman was injured Saturday night after a gun accidentally discharged in the parking lot of a Food Lion grocery store in South Carolina, according to the Irmo Police Department.
The incident occurred at the Food Lion located at 6021 St. Andrews Road in Columbia, an area situated between Harbison Boulevard and Interstate 26. Police said the woman was sitting inside a parked car when the firearm went off unexpectedly.
According to an Irmo Police Department spokeswoman, the woman was transferring the gun when it accidentally fired. Officers confirmed that she shot herself unintentionally, and no one else was harmed during the incident. Police were called to the scene shortly after the shooting and quickly secured the area.
The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. While specific details about her injuries were not immediately provided, authorities confirmed that her wounds are not considered life-threatening. Additional updates on her condition have not yet been released.
Investigators have stated that no charges are being filed at this time, as the shooting appears to have been entirely accidental. Police also noted that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
