As Blythewood continues to grow, the signs of expansion are becoming more visible across the town—from new neighborhoods and widened roadways to additional schools and businesses.
Now, a growing church is adding to that landscape.
Village Church reached a significant milestone this weekend as part of its campus expansion. On Sunday, a 36-foot-tall cross was lifted and secured atop the church’s new worship center, symbolizing both the congregation’s faith and its growth alongside the community.
For church members, watching the campus take shape over the past year has been especially meaningful.
“It’s been incredible to see everything come together,” said members of the Boss family. “The installation of the cross reminds us why we’re here. It’s all about the cross and all about Jesus.”
The cross installation marks a major step forward in the construction of the new 1,200-seat worship center, designed to serve Blythewood’s rapidly expanding population in northern Richland County.
Pastor Erik Estep said the church’s current worship space seats approximately 750 people and requires three services to accommodate attendees, while also limiting room for children’s ministries.
“We’re really pressed for space, especially in our children’s center,” Estep said. “This new building will allow us to convert our existing worship space into a larger children’s area so we can better serve families.”
Church members say the expansion will also make it easier for newcomers to feel welcome as more families move into the area.
“When space is limited, it can feel overwhelming for new families or individuals,” the Boss family said. “This expansion creates a more comfortable environment and helps people connect.”
Discipleship Pastor Hamilton Mathis noted that the church’s growth closely reflects what’s happening throughout Blythewood.
“Over the past five years, we’ve seen tremendous growth in both Blythewood and Village Church,” Mathis said. “This new space gives people a place to connect and grow in their relationship with the Lord.”
Church leaders anticipate opening the doors to the new worship center next spring.
